Vern Dale Mims, Sr.
Vern Dell Mims, Sr., passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at his residence in Teague among loving family and devoted friends. Viewing was held Friday, Oct, 22, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the First Baptist Church, 209 N. 6th Avenue, Teague with Rev. Carlos Daniel and Rev. Harry Thompson officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery, North 1st Street in Teague.
Mr. Mims was born in Fairfield, Texas on December 6, 1940 to the parentage of Napoleon (Buck) Mims and Elizabeth Jacob. He grew up in Fairfield and attended Dogan High School there. He was baptized in the Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a deacon in the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Teague.
He married Loisey (Penny) Mims in Limestone County in 1962. Vern worked as a truck driver, as a building construction worker, and retired as a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railroad after 27 1/2 years of service.
Mr. Mims was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Carolyn Carroll and two brothers: O. B. Jacob and Bill Billings.
Those who will cherish his memory most are: His wife: Loisey (Penny) Mims, Teague; Sons: Will Nelms and wife, Genell, Teague; Vern Dell Mims, Jr. and wife, Belinda, Teague and Kenneth Mims and Glenda, Teague; Daughters: Carolyn Mims Heggins, Christene mims, Lois Mims, all of Teague and Ruby Dixon and husband, Elmer, Dallas; Brothers: William larry Carroll and wife, Ida Mae, Long Beach, CA; Mickey Jacob and wife, Mary, Corsicana; Napoleon Mims, Jr. and James Mims, both of Madisonville, Texas; Sisters: Naomi Lang, Marlin, TX; Pollie Mims and Paula Fleming, both of Dallas, TX; Earnestime Bell and husband, Lorenzo, Abilene, TX; and Lisa Joyce Palmer, Fairfield, TX; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
