i45_proposed_map_of_ramp_project3_030117The I-45 Project in Fairfield is one step closer to coming to fruition. TxDOT Bryan District held an informational meeting for the public regarding this Project on Thursday, February 23, 2017.

During this meeting, personnel were on hand to show two proposed schematics for the I-45 reconstruction of access ramps.

Some of the main features of both plans include adding a Northbound exit ramp and Southbound entrance ramp at Church Street; adding frontage/access road between Church Street and Highway 84 northbound; making one-way frontage/access roads between Church Street and Highway 27; removing the northbound and southbound entrance ramps between Highways 84 & 27; and moving, elongating, and straightening all four existing exit ramps.

The only differences between the two proposed plans are that Plan 1 will include a traffic signal on both sides of I-45 at Highway 27 and stop signs on both sides of I-45 at Church Street; and Plan 2 would include roundabouts in place of those traffic lights and stop signs.

Many members of the community, including several business owners, were in attendance to learn about the possible changes.

By viewing maps of the proposed project, it does not appear that any existing business buildings or homes in the area will be affected; and the changes could potentially add more frontage road access property to bring in new businesses.

i45_proposed_map_of_ramp_project2_030117According to Allison Kurwitz, District Advanced Planning Engineer, and Bob Colwell, Public Information Officer, of the Bryan District Office, this meeting was an opportunity for TxDOT to get feedback from the community.

“There will be a review of all comments received from that meeting,” explains Kurwitz; “and possible changes will be made to the schematics before any final decisions are made.”

She goes on to say, “There is currently no funding for this project as yet, but if and when monies are allocated for the project, it would take about 18-24 months for the project to be completed once started.”

Below is a point-by-point breakdown of the two projected schematics.

--Frontage/Acess road between Church Street and Highway 84
