entertainment_polar_express_tsrrThis November and December the Texas State Railroad is again hosting The Polar Express™ Train Ride. Wear your pajamas and jump on board for a magical trip to the North Pole. This train excursion is themed after author Chris Van Allsburg’s award-winning story "The Polar Express."

On board the train there will be a live reading of the classic story. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be passed out. Upon arrival at the North Pole, Santa and his elves will board the train and give each child a special gift as the train makes its way back to the Palestine Depot to the sound of Christmas carols being sung by young and old.

This year, for the first time, a dome car will be part of this special event. Dome cars are double decker passenger rail cars that offer an intimate experience on the lower level, and special decorations and larger windows in the upper seating area 16-feet above the rails.

At the depot, Lee Loveless Photography will be offering commemorative photos. Mementos can be purchased in the gift shop and a food vendor will also be on hand.

Trains leave from the Texas State Railroad Depot in Palestine beginning November 16 through December 29. For more information on this opportunity to make a lifelong family memory, go to www.easttexaspolarexpressride.com.

Special school days are scheduled for November 28-29 and December 5-6. The train will depart the Palestine Depot at 10am and 12pm. The price for school groups taking advantage of this offer is $10 for students and $20 for adults.

On December 15 the Lone Star Attendants will be donating their tips to Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots drop-off boxes will also be set up at the Palestine and Rusk depots throughout the holiday season. Guests are encouraged to bring a new toy for their child to donate to less fortunate children in Anderson and Cherokee counties.

"Last year we sold more than 40,000 tickets and had visitors from 34 states and even some international visitors," said Janet Gregg, Marketing Manager. "It is a very memorable train ride for families to enjoy.
